Maryland Labor Law Updates for April 2026

Maryland employers should be aware of the following updates to compliance requirements as of April 2026:

Maryland Online Data Privacy Act (MODPA) Now Enforced

Starting April 1st, 2026, the Maryland Online Data Privacy Act (MODPA) goes into full effect. 

The law provides certain protections regarding consumer rights and data sensitivity. Most importantly, the law prohibits prohibits the sale of sensitive data.

While enforcement of the law started in October 2025, processing activities prior to April 2026 were not covered.

Minnesota Labor Law Updates for April 2026

Minnesota employers should be aware of the following updates to compliance requirements as of April 2026:

First Wage Detail Reports and Premium Payments Due for Minnesota Paid Leave

While Minnesota Paid Leave Benefits became available to employees on January 1st, 2026, employers should note that the first wage detail reports and premium payments are due for Q1 on April 30th, 2026. 

Employers can submit this information through the state's Unemployment Insurance (UI) portal.

New York Labor Law Updates for April 2026

New York employers should be aware of the following updates to compliance requirements as of April 2026:

New York Credit History Restrictions

Starting April 18th, 2026, New York employers will no longer be able to request or use an applicant’s or employee’s credit history in employment decisions.

The law defines credit history as: 

  • Credit reports
  • Credit scores
  • Payment history
  • Bankruptcies, judgments, or liens
  • Financial information provided by the applicant

Exceptions only apply in any instance in which a credit history check is required by law or where security clearance is required.

Oregon Labor Law Updates for April 2026

Oregon employers should be aware of the following updates to compliance requirements as of April 2026:

New Minimum Wage Rates Announced This Month

Employers in the state should keep an eye out for the new state minimum wage rate, which is announced by April 30th, each year.

Local Oregon minimum wage rates will also change. This is a yearly update under Oregon Labor Laws.
